Tipsy Taco Tuesday #34 – Shrimp Tacos at Joey Ds

WOAH! We are back in Alexandria, Virginia for another edition of Tipsy Taco Tuesday. As we all stay at home, I will cook random tacos. I have a taco cookbook that my friends Alice and James bestowed upon me that his recipe came from. Don’t be SHELLfish and go out and about during this quarantine. Speaking of shellfish, we dove into the water and grabbed some shrimp for these tacos:

Taco Review Time:

I went to the store without a mask (badboy life) and bought a half pound of shrimp (for one, per usual). Scooped up some cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, jalapenos, cilantro, mayo, carrots and white vinegar.

The creamy cilantro slaw was the key piece to this delicious meal. In a large bowl I stirred together the red cabbage, 1 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar, garlic powder, jalapeno with some seeds (NEED THAT KICK), carrots, chopped up cilantro and 3 TSP of mayonnaise. After, I let it sit in the fridge for an hour. The shrimp (as seen below with master flipping skills) was tossed in olive oil, chili powder and a little paprika.

The heat of the shrimp, tied together with the cooled slaw was something I love. When you combine something hot and cold (like a lava cake), usually pans out pretty well.  I am biased as I was the cook, but I highly recommend making these and it only took 20 minutes (not including the hour of slaw in the fridge) with prep to eating. If you like heat, you can make the slaw hotter with more seeds from the jalapeno or even getting wild and throw it in with the shrimp while cooking. Will make again – 7.7/10

Tipsy Review Time:

With the virus encompassing our lives, there is no other beer to drink than a nice Corona extra. I have reviewed the Corona Light in the past, but it’s time to rate the extra. Corona reminds me of a beach that I should be going to at the end of April for a wedding, but the virus decided to put all these plans on hold. Corona is a very typical beer that you can make better with lime. These taste better when it is warm outside and you are not quarantined inside. 5.4/10

If you are into seafood and shrimp, then you’d rave about these. The shrimp tacos absolutely get the Tipsy Taco Tuesday stamp of approval. Just like sneezing on people, say no to hardshells. #nohardshells
